Below is a clean comparison table showing how the exam has changed.

The 2026 RBT exam introduces updated domains to better match current ABA practice. “Measurement” has been replaced with “Data Collection & Graphing,” emphasizing the specific recording and graphing skills RBTs need every day.

Domain Weights Adjusted

Several domains now carry more weight. Behavior Assessment has increased from 6 to 8 questions, highlighting the importance of preference assessments, ABC data, and functional information. Behavior Reduction also increased from 12 to 14 questions to reflect the growing focus on differential reinforcement and ethical reduction strategies.

Skill Acquisition Domain Reduced

Skill Acquisition was previously the largest domain with 24 questions. In 2026 it has been reduced to 19 questions, though it remains the single most heavily weighted part of the exam. This change centers the exam more evenly across the domains.

Ethics Remains Important

Ethics remains highly weighted with 11 questions. While the domain name shifted from “Professional Conduct & Scope of Practice” to “Ethics,” the expectation for RBTs to follow the RBT Ethics Code is unchanged.

Documentation & Reporting Unchanged

Documentation & Reporting continues to hold 10 questions. This reflects how essential accurate note-writing, variable reporting, and communication are in ABA services.
